The Realities of Starting a Home-Based Business

Home based business - If you have clients, partners, or prospects who are in different time zones, you will find yourself receiving phone calls at 9 am - their time - even though they are three hours ahead of your event. This can be avoided to some degree by placing hours of operation and time zones of important notices on your sales materials, but not everyone will see them. The easiest way to avoid this is to simply turn off your office phone during private business hours. If you do, make sure you remember to turn it back on when you start work every day and check your voice mail regularly.

well, maybe. The first time you start a business on a regular basis, you will often feel stressed or worried about not being able to make a success. If you are concerned about generating revenue primarily, it would be very difficult to leave the office just by "going out and having fun".

"Freedom to do what I want, when I want"

When you start a home based business, you say goodbye to having a boss? That is wrong. In any business, clients and customers take on the role of a boss including a home based business. Yes, you have the freedom to choose who you consider to be a client, and you have the freedom to tell your clients "No" if necessary. At first, you will not find yourself saying no or choosing too often.

Let's say you decide to work for only half a day so you can spend the rest of the day running errands or clearing the garage. Then you get a call from a client who needs something done at the end of the day. Would you say no because you have other plans? Impossible - especially if you need the job.

You sell the product to the customer you say? Ok, it can usually be quite automated and handsfree - especially if you sell through a website. But guess what? Your site may go down, your ordering or fulfillment process may experience hiccups and 20 customers can all have support questions on the same day. If one or more of these situations arise, do you think you will ignore them for hours? Not if you are serious about generating revenue and building an established and reputable business.

"
Is this true? Correct. You can enter anything, or not, according to your schedule. You can even choose not to keep a schedule if that's what you want. Unfortunately you will find that not having a schedule can cause laziness - but having a schedule can cause unreasonable stress and hope.

"Wha ... huh ??" It's true, and I'll explain.

Choosing not to have a schedule is the most common choice for new home business owners. You will soon find out however, that no schedule can lead to no discipline. Your morning coffee and paper can blend with TV shows and afternoon tea. You might decide that because you have free time - you do not have a schedule to take care of, you can do this! - You will clean the kitchen cabinets. You've been trying to find time for that right? Or you'll do the laundry, call some friends, curl up with a good book - whatever. The point is, not setting a schedule can keep you in serious danger of not completing any work.

On the other hand, to prevent laziness from crawling inside you decide to schedule your day. So you really schedule your day You decide that you want to work for 8 hours, and you cram as much as possible into those 8 hours. Then you get an unexpected call from a prospect that takes 30 minutes - you have not planned it yet. Or one of your children is sick and you have to stop your work, go to school and pick them up (or keep them away if they're at home). You have not planned for that hmm? Before you know it, you've lost 2 or 3 hours scheduled for business - and you're trying to catch up. Too many today will burn you, frustrate you, and make you wonder why you chose to start a business.

With all that, should not you bother starting your own business? Of course not. Do what you really want to do. Know the reality and set expectations and plan accordingly.
